What is the Junkyard?

Welcome to the Junkyard.

Not much to look at, but big on ideas.

The junkyard started years ago when i was in High School and some friends and I had some time to kill in between classes. We would give each other ideas to write about and see what we could come up with in a timed enviroment.
Since then, the concept has evolved into a teaching tool.

I have used this technique with several different grade levels, but the end result is the same.
I want children to learn to put words on a page, and i want them to have fun doing it.
Do you remember what it felt like when you were in school and the teacher said they wanted you to write 500 words about a certain topic.
Your heart rate rose, your palms got sweaty and you thought to yourself, I can't write 500 words. I don't know what to say.

This is where Junkyard comes in.
One topic.
Timed writing.
No cares about spelling or punctuation.
It is not that i do not care about those things, but they fall into the editing catagory, and I am more concerned about getting the words on the page.

Here in the Junkyard we write for fun.
Sometimes we come up with something great.
Most times...we do not.
But we work our minds, we allow ourselves to be creative, and we put those words on a page.
