It is kind of ironic

It is kind of ironic that the first time as a parent that i have to deal with lice, that the country is dealing with the election of another kind of louse (USE YOUR INSIDE VOICE KIM, not everyone shares your opinion).

As i watched the election results last night, I wondered where the big landslide was. After all, the polls had shown that the Conservatives were just a rolling all over the Liberals...this of course depending on what poll you listened to, and i tend to listen to them all....but that didn't happen. Sure many Liberals were defeated...many good candidates lost, regardless of party affiliations. But, in the end, it was Stephen Harper who will be running our country. On a leash. A minority leash. We the people, at least in my own opinion (which of course i will be more than happy to share!) have said, although we (and again i use this collectively, and it by NO MEANS represents the way I voted) have given you power, we have decided that we don't want you to have too much power, and so we will also keep the Liberals around...and the NDP, and in Quebec the Bloc. Just so you don't go all big headed on us. Yes it was time for a change, but Canadians don't do change well. Hell i am wondering if the election really even counts, since we haven't had a Royal Commission on it, and we all know that NOTHING happens in Canada without a Royal Commission. We like to ease into things..and i think that is what we have done with this new Minority Gov't.

Here in my own riding, nothing changed. This is a huge labour town, and we remained NDP. The county remained PC. As much as things change, this is Canada and things also remain the same.

I took Bug with me to vote, and explained the whole voting process to her, from start to finish. I read the names on the ballot too her, and she asked what colour each one was...reminded me of when Munch was small and we used to play the Party sign game. But she recognized the names of the candidates from the 3 major political parties...and asked me who i thought would do a good job and not get fired. I told her my opinion..and voted. The way i should. The way i knew I would deep down because the candidates may change, but the colour in my heart always stays the same!

So the other louse problem.....We have done the shampoo treatment, and done the combing, and the laundry, and the combing and the laundry, and the combing...and so on and so on and so on.
Bug (funny the nickname seems so much more appropriate now...) is really tired of playing beauty shop. After all is said and done, she appears to be the only one affected. I hope. Her hair is white blonde, and baby fine and its a pain in the butt to go through her hair...but it has to be done.

So as i deal with our problem, and the county deals with theirs..I guess all around its been a pretty "lousy" day...(sorry but it had to be said!)

A whole bunch of little

A whole bunch of little things which add up to some sort of post!

**** Who knew that South Africa made such delicious wine? Hubby and i discovered this last night, while i was trying to drown my sorrows while watching a really BAD hockey game (and no, it wasn't the Ottawa/Toronto game....although that was pretty sad too!)

****When you finish your bottle of SA wine, and then add a bottle of our fave Australian chardonnay...you can pretty much guarantee that Mommy will NOT get on time to make it to church....Sorry Grandma, you don't need to read that last part!

****Keith does so NOT NEED all of those fancy power tool thingies that he keeps asking for. He has been working all weekend on the back hallway and it looks wonderful! And he did it without any "special tools"...Sorry dear, but you should have tried to make some mistakes, you may have gotten a new mitre saw out of the deal.......

****Apparently people at the grocery store have no sense of humour when it comes to a husband calling out to his wife by using the name...HEY CUCUMBER...the shirt i was wearing was the same colour as the cukes that i had put in the basket, and Keith HAD inhaled a little too much sawdust yesterday.....guess you had to be there.....

****The election is tomorrow and i am almost ready to make a decsion. Maybe. Possibly. Couldn't i just close my eyes and throw a dart?

****Play with Wilsonworld is still over there on the right. Go click on it and join me everyday for trivia. Everyone is welcome!

Ok...like i said, not much of a post, but i am up to my eyeballs in laundry and sawdust.
I'll do better tomorrow!

Friday. Is. Now. My. Favourite.

Friday. Is. Now. My. Favourite. Day. Of. The. Week.

SHE WENT BACK TO SCHOOL!!!!!

Yes, Bug is feeling much better and today went back to school.
Not a moment too soon, because if I had to listen to one more of her short-turned-to-long stories i think my head was going to explode...yep... just pop right off my neck.

When Keith came home yesterday he said I had a gazed look about me...that was just before i broke down in hysterics....Yep.... Hysterical laughter from the woman who doesn't do funny.

Bug had not stopped.

She had been incessantly chattering all day and i just could not handle it anymore. (NOTE.....I LOVE MY DAUGHTER, ITS JUST 4 DAYS OF HER WITH NO BREAKS, AND HER AND I FEELING NOT SO WELL MAKES MOMMY A BIT OF A BASKET CASE).

And if she catches on that you are simply nodding your head in a Oh-I-am-so-interested-in-what-you-are-saying/drawing/inventing manner...well she then explains it ALL OVER AGAIN...FROM THE BEGINNING

So today she went back to school and i am a happy mommy again!

What did I do with my glorious morning of freedom?

NOTHING

I listened to IL DIVO, and read politicial news for almost 3 hours.

See why people think I don't do funny?

BIG HELLO TO PJ who was born on Jan 18th!
Welcome to the world little man!

Go and say hello..I am sure that his mommy would like that!

One fish two fish....red fish

One fish two fish....red fish blue fish...... You know I wonder if Dr Suess has politics in mind when he wrote that? Here we are days away from this dreaded election and i am as fuddled as a character in one of his books. I watched Stephen Harper's press conference from Toronto this morning......boy, it would be nice if politicians would realize that Ontario does extend past Toronto....Listening to him talk I did realize one thing. I will not be voting for the Blue Fish. You can remind me that i am living in the past..but that man reminds me too much of Mike Harris... But the problem is i don't like any of the other trouts in the big pond either. Red fish are..well...hard to believe...and I am scared of the Orange fish. Green fish don't even factor into the picture, although they seem to be gaining in popularity (This coming from a discussion Keith and I had this morning while watching the results of the latest polls).

I used to enjoy fishing.
Not so much anymore.
I liked it better when you knew how the fish would taste...now i seem to be living in the fear of having a bitter taste left in my mouth.

I wonder how many others feel this way? I know that from most of the polls that there are a lot of people who are still undecided....but will the indecisiveness lead to voter apathy? Will people just think..well there really isn't a good choice so why make a choice at all? I hope not. I hope that people will remember how important it is to have their voices heard. Even if the voices aren't quite sure what they want to say.......

*****I have spent a lot of time reading children's books the past few days. Bug has been home sick with a bad cold all this week, and we have been reading . A lot. Over and over again. That and watching THE MAGIC SCHOOL BUS "INSIDE RAPHIE".
Bug is now fascinated with the battle that is going on inside of her as her white blood cells fight off the bad germs......Everything she does is preceded by "Will this help my body fight off germs Mommy?"******

***Winter has made its triumphant return to our area..although according to the weather-man we won't actually be receiving any snow. I listened to this after shoveling off the front walk. Do these people actually look outside first before reporting?

you are also very idealistic.

Munch has just finished Eragon.

Munch has just finished Eragon. Which I just bought...for me to read. I have not read it yet, because when i came home with it, he grabbed it and said...OH A NEW BOOK!!!! (yes they are SOOOO my children) I remember when the book came out, and i watched an interview with the author. A young kid named Christopher Paolini. He was just a kid. I thought the book sounded interesting, but.. We were immersed in the whole HARRY POTTER thing and it disappeared from my mind. Until last week when Shelley and i made a bookstore run. And there it was....along side his second in the series which had been recently released. So I bought it. To read. For myself. Munch has asked for the second book..declaring the book even better than Harry Potter...I cannot vouch for this, but i do know that we had to stop him from reading while walking up stairs, and i haven't seen much of his face for the last week, just the top of his head as it peers out from behind the book.

This is reading season...or at least it is supposed to be.

I just can't get into any one particular book.
I am one of those readers who always have 3 or 4 books on the go, but right now nothing is holding my attention for very long.

I am trying to read OUTLANDER by Diana Gabaldon ( this is my second attempt...I really want to read it..i want to feel the love for Jamie the way that others do)
I am reading THE KEYSTONE by Jack Whyte.
I am reading ILIUM by Dan Simmons
I am reading MIDDLE PASSAGE by Charles Johnson

***Kim, please note there isn't a Margaret or a Farley on that list***

And now that Munch is done Eragon, I can start that one too.

On top of that, I have a gift card from Chapters that is burning a hole in my pocket.

It is a sickness I tell you...a sickness.

SO
What are you reading?
I am in the market for something new to read!

January 10, 2006

Um..... I just realized that

Um..... I just realized that we are going to the polls in 2 weeks......and i have no idea of who i am voting for! Normally this would not even be an issue for me, since i have been a proud supporter (and card carrier) of the present party in power...BUT we have watched the news and listened to scandle after scandle, and quite frankly I am getting tired of the colour red. But I am not particularily fond of Blue or Orange......So what is a girl to do?

When Munch was very small, we used to make a game out of election signs..to introduce him to the different parties. He would march down the street and declare that "The Red team is winning on this street Mom" or "Orange is pulling ahead on this road". It was a game, and we all had fun.
But he is older now, and he asks harder questions. He watches the news with us, and is aware of the current opinions of both his father and I. And he wants to know why we vote the way we do. Why do you choose one canidate over another? Or do you vote for the party and not the guy in your area?
Keith and I do not always share the same political ideals..and often we do not vote the same way ( yes we discuss who we vote for). This has become more apparent during this election, Keith having made up his mind, and me still...well....with no idea as to what to do.

I had a conversation with a poor man who was doing telephone surveys for the Liberal canidate in this area. He wanted to know if he could count on my support this year. And for the first time i said I am not sure. I said it out loud. The truth is I don't really like any of the local canidates, and i also do not like any of the party leaders.

And i cannot not vote.
I just can't.
Too many people through the years have gone through so much so that i have the right to vote, It is something that i just have to do.

I just wish it was as easy as picking my favourite colour.

SuperHappyJen had a great take on the first leadership debate.
At least she watched it.....I have not made it through either of the debates....

I had better make my mind up soon.....January 23rd is right around the corner.....

THEY ARE GONE!!!!! Christmas vacation

THEY ARE GONE!!!!!

Christmas vacation is finally over and this morning there is nothing but silence in my house. It truly is a wonderful sound...or lack thereof!

In other news.....

IT IS DE-LURKING WEEK! ( an offical type of email sent to me this past week reminded me of this)

Greetings, Salutations, and Hi:

This is the official reminder that De-Lurking Day is now De-Lurking week, and it starts Monday, January 9th and runs through Friday the 13th. So if you wonder who's reading your blog, then encourage those lurkers to tickle their keyboards and leave a comment. If you like, you can link back to me, because I'm a traffic whore, and it's the one day a year I get to be a "large mammal" in the TTLB ecosystem. All the other days I'm only a large mammal when I step on the bathroom scale. *rim shot* I'll be posting buttons, if you want to come by and snag one. I hope you have fun getting a peek at who your readers are, and letting others know you read them :o)

See You Soon!
Sheryl

SO REMEMBER.
Your task is to read, and LEAVE a comment, so we know who you are! If you have an blog, please leave an url so i can return the favour!
While you are at it, why don't you go and check out my friends on the right....yes, that list of links, shich when clicked will take you to some very funny, talented people. Just don't forget to leave a comment while you are there.

January 06, 2006

January 05, 2006

It was raining this morning,

It was raining this morning, when i woke up. The kids had let me sleep in (following Daddy's orders), and when i finally pulled my head out from underneath the covers, i saw that it was just as grey outside today as it has been for the last 5 days. I shuffled downstairs, and was greeted with a rousing "Happy Birthday Mommy, What are you doing out of bed?" Well, there are dishes to be done, house to clean, laundry to do, Christmas stuff to take down......the list doesn't seem to get any shorter In the process of taking the garland off the banister, i have broken 3 glass ornaments off the tree, bashed my head twice, and stabbed myself with the prickly garland more times than i can count. Maybe we will celebrate Christmas all year round..that way the darn stuff can stay where it is!

How is your day going?

***update
I just got a lovely phone call from some of my hubby's co-workers, all singing Happy Birthday.....maybe the day won't be so bad after all....

AND
its trying to snow!

Things you should look at...NOW!
