Apparently our town made all sorts of headlines, declaring a state of emergency around noon yesterday. Apparently there was an explosion in an automotive shop and a raging fire ensued. Schools were evacuated...businesses closed....exciting stuff!
I received an automated phone call from the school at 4:30pm letting me know that my children's school was in no way effected and that they would be released from school as per normal. AT 3:30. So glad i got that call...3 1/2 hours after the schools in question were evacuated, and 45 minutes AFTER my children arrived home!
Yes it is a large area affected, 613 businesses remained closed until fire officials deem them safe from toxins... Keith and I used to live around that area when we were first married..I walked by that Auto shop daily to get to my then place of business.
You can read the story HERE.
Haven't felt much like posting, although I have been reading blogs. I have noticed a trend, amongst those people I like to read...No one is posting much right now. It could be the weather...now that it is nice out (although you couldn't tell by looking outside..its raining right now!) people have other things to do...they have the chance to get out and enjoy the air, the sun....and for those who are in the States..deal with the children who are now out of school.
This coming weekend I am taking Bug to visit my Mom. I am not sure what she is more excited about....spending the day shadowing a Veternarian, or taking the train. I arranged this little trip because right now she is in the little girl phase of "i want to be a VET..and take care of all of the sick animals in the world". Since my Mother's best friend and employer happens to be one, we thought it would be fun for Bug to spend the day at the Animal Hospital, to see what goes on there. AN added bonus for her is taking her first train ride (not really her first, but she was only a few months old on her first trip).
It's a win/win situation for all..I get a visit with my Mom and Dr. Sue (a woman who has been in my life for 30 years), Mom get a visit with her grand-daughter..Dr Sue gets slave labour for a day.....Bug gets and adventure..Everyone is happy!
A little adventure is good for the inner child......
What do you do for yours? Or what have you done lately?
