Funny thing happened on the way to writing a post.
Life got in the way.
While i make no apologies for disappearing for over two weeks (yikes!), after popping around the blogosphere i have noticed that this seems to be a trend right now. There seems to be a lack of posting from those on my daily reads. Could it be because it is February? The shortest yet feels like the longest month of the year? Here in our little corner of the world, we have welcomed the ARCTIC weather (this morning as the kids headed off to school it was -29C) and are doing everything we can to keep warm...and not expend a lot of energy. Hibernation mode we like to call it. No going outside unless ABSOLUTELY necessary..doing as little as possible...eating lots...reading lots...and of course watching every hockey game we possibly can. On Saturday, it was HOCKEY DAY IN CANADA..an unofficial holiday celebrating the game that we all know and love (OK..not all of us..but most). SO it was kind of cool while watching HNIC all day, there was a story on our little town. As a matter of fact it was shot at the end of our street...at the outdoor rink that Keith and the kids like to skate at.
The downfall to this time of year of course, along with the going stir crazy..is the lack of socialization. No back yard bbq's, no sitting on the front porch with neighbours....it is a chore just to walk down the street..1/2 hour worth of bundling to walk a block...no thanks i'll just look outside.
The exception to this was our trip out on Saturday night to our Niece's Jack and Jill. Ashley is getting married this Thursday (yes, Valentines day...awwww). She is the first of the next generation to get married..strange for me to think about any of my nieces or nephews as being old enough to get married, but somehow it happened.
I look at my own children, and the children i hold dear to me and i realize that time is marching on. None of them are "babies" anymore...my own Bug being the youngest out of the pack. The little girl who gets herself dressed, plans our dinner (she has to be stopped from cooking it as well) and can put her own hair in pigtails. When did she grow like that? Munch who now stands almost two inches taller than i do. When i call home and hear two male voices, i ask Keith who is visiting...it is Munch. When did his voice drop like that? I feel like time is spinning quicker than it ever has before, and before we know it..my babies will be gone....out in the world on their own journeys...leaving us behind.
I can remember someone telling me (lots of people tell us this) to enjoy our children while they were small and to treasure every moment, because in a blink of an eye, that time will be gone. I remember thinking...there is no way that it could ever go that fast. After all they were children. Little babies. They would need us for a long time. There were times that i thought (as all parents do)..when are they going to grow up?
Well i was right. The time doesn't go that fast.
It goes faster.
