Never be one again......

Dearest Munch.
Today, you became a teenager.
Today i watched you.
The same way i watched you thirteen years ago...with amazement and wonder.
There are so many things i would love to tell you, but at this stage of your life, i am lucky to get you to listen for a few moments, before some other shiny thing takes over your time.
I would love to tell you thank you.
thanks you for teaching me how to be a mother.
Thank you for teaching me that dirt and germs are part of growing up..
I am sorry for the years i spent looking at you like you were one of my subjects in my child development textbooks. I spent so much time worrying about what might be wrong that i often missed what was right.
I am so proud of the man you are becoming. You have such patience for Papa and Miss Dorreen (the lady next door). You worry about them, and are constantly thinking of what they might need done. I am glad that you have listened to your Father and I as we have tried to teach you the importance of looking out for others, and that Seniors are a wealth of information and knowledge.
Your love of family, your love of knowledge and learning..every day you continue to surprise me..and most of the times it is in a good way!
Today you turned 13.
Today you are one step closer to taking the steps that will carry you off on your journey.
Just remember where you come from.
And remember that no matter where you go and what you do..
you will always be my first born, my baby..
my son.
I love you.

Happy Birthday!

I love the "too cool for school" look on his face.

Happy Birthday, Munch!

He looks like he's all legs and a little bit of attitude! But aren't they all at this point?

Is he taller than you yet - and does he remind you whenever he gets the chance?

Enjoy these years, too... teens can be fun as well, in fits and starts.

That's really beautiful. Don't show it to him til he's 35.

Ah, 13. Happy birthday Munch!

Thanks guys! Munch is already taller than I am Jeri, he is at 5'5 and I am somewhere around 5'1 (if i stretch). He never misses and opportunity to remind me of this fact.
I love the expression he has on his face...it sums up his whole new "teen" attitude..which i have a feeling i will have to help him "check" quite often.
