One of the problems with working the schedule I do, is that quite often i have NO IDEA of what day it is. When you add in that I took an extra day off this week, it has really messed up my internal clock. Yesterday, while out shopping for school shoes, Munch and I had an discussion about what day it was. Apparently the kids are having the same problem.
This week I do not go back to work until Saturday night, and then only work two nights (my last two midnights thank-you-very-much). SO i have been around the house a bit more than normal.
While out school shopping, we stopped at the girlie store so Bug could get her ears pierced. While she did not cry, she did let out a shriek that Munch heard in the store across the hall. But now she has pretty pink (go figure) daisies in her ears and is very happy.
Last night after weeks of discussion, we set up Munch with a Face-book page. His best friend moved away last year to the Maritimes and Mac had sent Munch a Face-book friend request. With strict guidelines, and parental rules ringing in his ears, he is now "Facebooking". It is a great way for the two boys to "chat" as well as for him to keep in touch with family member that are on there as well. (keeping in mind that my family and I do not live in the same city, and some live on the other side of the country)
Were we a little worried about giving our teen-aged boy FB? Yes, but we trust in what we have taught him, and we trust that he will abide by the rules that have been set. Quite simply, if they aren't followed, then he loses the privilege. Next year he will be in high school, and four years after that, off to the post-secondary school that he will eventually decide on. I need to be able to trust in the things that I have/am teaching him, so that when the time comes (and it is coming faster than i ever thought it could) he will have the skills he needs to thrive out on his own. I would rather him learn/experiment here under the watchful eye rather than the way I learned which was by trial and error. (keeping in mind that the parental controls on his computer are in full force, so while he does have some freedom, the strings have not been cut completely..baby steps here people!)
Fellow UCF member Shawn "the hottie" Powers is up for the "Hot Blogger Calendar" and is in a race with Wil Wheaton. Shawn is winning, but more votes cannot hurt. Go check him out and vote! (Yes, even this geek-fan girl did not vote for Wil, and instead followed the UCF motto of "Swarm and get'em" and voted for Shawn.)
The days are flying by, and as of this morning, the kids will be back to school in 5 days! WOO WOO! I love my kids, but time for them to get back into school mode. Bug is excited, Munch is too, but will deny it if you ask him. And one week from today, i will be at school too! Classes for the University start Sept. 4th.....so around here it is one eye on the closing of summer, and one eye on the new school stuff that sits in my office, waiting/wanting/calling out to be used.
Soon my pretties, soon...we like new books and binders my precious, yes we do!

My high school son starts on Sep 3 - but my college son doesn't start until Sep 22, he's on the quarter system. I'll be glad when they're both a little busier. :)
